Anthropic Reportedly Declines VC Offers Valuing It Over $800B, Nearing OpenAI's Valuation

Venture capitalists are consistently on the hunt for the hottest startups, but these companies aren't always keen on issuing more shares. This is currently the case with Anthropic, according to sources familiar with the matter speaking to Bloomberg.

VC firms have reportedly offered the AI leader, a prominent competitor to OpenAI, a preemptive funding round that would value the company at $800 billion or more. This potential valuation would nearly match, or even surpass, its rival OpenAI, which secured a record-breaking $110 billion round in February, achieving an $852 billion post-money valuation. Anthropic itself had announced a $30 billion funding round just weeks prior, at a $380 billion valuation.

However, Anthropic has, so far, not shown interest in these latest significant offers, Bloomberg reports. This stance could evolve, given Anthropic's substantial capital expenditures. The Claude developer has, for instance, committed $50 billion to building its own data centers, another $30 billion for Microsoft's cloud services, and spends billions annually on AWS. At some point, the company may indeed require additional capital, particularly if it can secure funding on favorable terms, potentially more than doubling its previous valuation.

Despite this current reluctance, investors remain highly optimistic about Anthropic's rapidly expanding revenue, which reportedly surged to $30 billion by the end of March 2026, up from $9 billion at the close of 2025. This strong financial performance fuels investor eagerness, with demand for Anthropic shares nearing insatiable levels on secondary markets. Consequently, even a slight signal from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei could enable the company to secure funding that propels its valuation beyond that of its closest competitor.
