Xiaomi Redmi Prices Rise Due to Storage Chip Surge; MIIT Prioritizes Petrochemical Equipment Upgrades

Xiaomi announced price adjustments for select Redmi products, effective April 11, 2026, citing a significant surge in global storage chip and other key component prices.

Affected models include the Redmi K90 Pro Max, which will see a 200 yuan price increase. The Redmi Turbo 5 and Turbo 5 Max will discontinue New Year special offers, though their 512GB large memory versions will retain a 200 yuan subsidy.

In related news, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and six other departments released the "Action Plan for Vigorously Advancing the Renovation and Upgrading of Old Equipment in the Petrochemical and Chemical Industry (2026-2029)."

The plan prioritizes renovating outdated equipment in key areas like refining, ethylene, p-xylene, MDI, and coal-to-methanol. Provincial MIIT departments are to establish green channels, optimize approval processes (including environmental, land, and safety permits), and enhance efficiency to accelerate project implementation.
