The US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has officially unveiled the CODiAQ, an advanced AI-powered quadruped robot armed with 40mm grenade launchers. This development is backed by a contract valued at approximately 100 billion won ($75 million), which includes the procurement of 14 armed robots and 28 modular weapon systems, representing a significant leap in autonomous defense technology and physical AI integration.
The technical core of the CODiAQ lies in its AI-based target recognition and tracking system. Designed to enhance operational awareness, this technology allows the platform to identify and monitor targets effectively in high-stakes environments. Its mobility is equally impressive, with the capability to navigate complex terrains—such as dense forests and steep stairs—either autonomously or semi-autonomously for a continuous duration of over two hours.
A standout feature of the CODiAQ platform is its rapid modularity. The design allows for weapon systems, including the 40mm grenade launchers, to be swapped or reloaded in under 90 seconds. This high degree of battlefield adaptability pushes the boundaries of tactical efficiency, enabling unmanned systems to meet evolving combat requirements with unprecedented speed and flexibility.
