Chinese AI Unicorn MiniMax Explores IPO on Shanghai's STAR Market

According to reports from 36Kr, MiniMax Group Inc., a leading Chinese generative AI unicorn, has announced that its board of directors has decided to explore a preliminary proposal for issuing RMB-denominated shares, signaling its intention to list on the Science and Technology Innovation Board (STAR Market) of the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

The company disclosed that the proposed issuance of RMB shares will involve consulting and negotiating with professional advisors and relevant securities regulators. MiniMax has officially hired professional advisors to consult on its eligibility for a STAR Market listing and has signed a pre-listing tutoring agreement, marking a major milestone in its public market pursuit. The transaction remains subject to market conditions and regulatory approvals.

As one of China's premier Large Language Model (LLM) developers, MiniMax is known for its proprietary "abab" model series and has achieved significant commercial success in consumer-facing AI applications, especially in AI companion and agent ecosystems (such as Talkie). If successful, MiniMax could become one of the first generative AI startups to list on China's A-share market.

[AgentUpdate Depth Analysis] MiniMax's move to seek an IPO on Shanghai's STAR Market represents a pivotal moment for the global and domestic AI Agent ecosystems. Unlike their Silicon Valley counterparts like OpenAI or Anthropic, which rely heavily on massive private funding rounds, leading Chinese LLM startups are actively leveraging public capital markets to secure long-term sustainability and accelerate commercialization. MiniMax’s prominent agent-based products, such as Talkie, have demonstrated strong user engagement worldwide. A public listing will provide the capital required to scale its multi-modal models and lower inference costs. More importantly, this listing will likely trigger a valuation re-rating of the entire AI Agent value chain (from compute infrastructure to specialized agent applications) in Asian markets, paving the way for a more mature, commercially viable Agentic AI economy.
