DJI Unveils Osmo Mobile 8P Gimbal with Detachable Screen Remote for Enhanced Solo Content Creation

DJI has unveiled its latest smartphone gimbal, the Osmo Mobile 8P, introducing a new feature designed to significantly benefit solo content creators. This model now includes a detachable remote control equipped with a screen, enabling users to capture video remotely without needing an assistant to press the record button. Furthermore, the Osmo Mobile 8P integrates DJI's advanced tracking technology, ensuring subjects remain centered in the frame, even within a bustling crowd.

The Osmo Mobile 8P is positioned as a more professional iteration of the Osmo Mobile 8, which launched late last year. Beyond providing smooth, three-axis stabilized action video with your smartphone, it facilitates native subject tracking on iPhones using Apple DockKit, or on Android devices via the optional Multifunctional Module 2.

This new gimbal is slightly more robust than last year's Osmo Mobile 7P, and its Multifunctional Module 2 extends further from the side, offering increased clearance. As with previous models, it features a built-in 8.5-inch extension rod and telescoping tripod feet. However, the most significant change lies within the handle, which houses a detachable "Frametap" remote control. This remote includes a built-in screen, a joystick controller, and a record button, allowing users to remotely tilt and rotate the gimbal and activate smartphone camera recording from over 150 feet away. Battery life remains at 10 hours, and it retains the ability to function as a phone charger when needed.

The remote's screen mirrors the display of your smartphone, making it easy to adjust composition when filming yourself. More importantly, for vloggers using higher-quality rear cameras where the phone's screen is not visible, the remote provides a direct view for monitoring footage and controlling recording start/stop.

The Multifunctional Module 2 pairs with the Osmo Mobile 8P and utilizes its integrated camera for tracking people, pets, and even general objects like cars and landmarks, keeping them precisely centered. This functionality is powered by DJI's new ActiveTrack 8.0, accessible via the Mimo app (or other compatible third-party camera applications). It effectively maintains subject centering even in crowded environments like concerts, deftly navigating around obstructions and handling rapid movements. iPhone users can also leverage native camera app tracking without the Multifunctional Module 2, thanks to Apple DockKit support.

To install your phone, simply insert it into the magnetic holder; the clever design angles the clamps to avoid pressing against the phone's side buttons. DJI's optional magnetic phone holder can also be used. Subsequently, release the gimbal from its locking positions, power it on, and then secure the phone.
