OpenAI has announced a strategic partnership with Infosys, an Indian IT services leader, to integrate its artificial intelligence tools, including the coding assistant Codex, into Infosys’ Topaz AI platform.
Infosys stated that this integration is designed to empower its clients to modernize software development, automate critical workflows, and deploy AI systems at an enterprise scale. The initial focus areas for this collaboration include software engineering, legacy modernization, and DevOps.
This move aligns with a broader industry trend where AI firms are collaborating with global IT services providers to accelerate AI adoption within large enterprises. OpenAI has previously partnered with HCLTech, and Infosys has a similar agreement with Anthropic. For OpenAI, this deal provides a significant distribution channel into large enterprises through Infosys' extensive global client base and delivery capabilities across more than 60 countries. Both companies emphasized that the partnership aims to transition enterprises from AI experimentation to large-scale operational deployment.
Indian IT services firms are currently facing increasing pressure from slowing client spending and the rapid advancements in generative AI. Infosys' shares have declined over 22% this year amidst weak forecasts, investor concerns about AI automating traditional outsourcing work, and broader macroeconomic turmoil. Against this backdrop, the partnership with OpenAI is crucial for Infosys to strengthen its AI business. Infosys previously reported that AI-related services generated ₹25 billion (approximately $267 million) in revenue during the December quarter, accounting for about 5.5% of its total revenue.
The collaboration is also part of OpenAI's wider initiative to expand its enterprise footprint, exemplified by its recently announced "Codex Labs" program. This program involves OpenAI engineers working directly with clients to assist in the deployment of its AI tools. Initial partners for Codex Labs include Accenture, Capgemini, CGI, Cognizant, Infosys, PwC, and Tata Consultancy Services. OpenAI is focused on building a robust distribution network to scale the adoption of Codex, which currently boasts over 4 million weekly active users. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.
