OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar Rebuts Underperformance Claims, Citing 'Vertical Wall of Demand' and Exceeding Top-Line Targets

OpenAI Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Sarah Friar recently refuted external claims that the company has not met its internal performance targets. Friar asserted that OpenAI is on track to achieve its objectives and that its products are experiencing a "vertical wall of demand."

In an interview, Friar stated, "Overall, our top-line operating performance has outperformed our plan. The specific path will vary quarter-to-quarter, as the business is still in its early stages, and precise prediction of detailed metrics is not yet possible." Her comments address recent reports alleging that the AI startup missed internal targets for both revenue and user growth, which had put the company under scrutiny.

The reports also highlighted Friar's previously reported concern that if revenue growth falls short of expectations, OpenAI might face challenges in affording its massive future compute infrastructure investments.
