Anthropic has quietly more than doubled its estimated token costs for Claude Code, significantly impacting developers' and enterprise users' expenditure expectations.
The AI startup now estimates that the average developer will spend approximately $13 per active day on Claude Code tokens. This figure marks a substantial increase from the earlier estimate of $6 per developer per day, announced just weeks prior.
According to the Claude Code website, for enterprise deployments, the average cost is around $13 per developer per active day, with monthly expenditures ranging from $150 to $250 per developer. The site also states that costs remain below $30 per active day for 90% of users. Anthropic advises teams to begin with a small pilot group and use tracking tools to establish a baseline before wider rollout.
Archived versions of the same page indicate that prior to April 16, the previous estimates were $6 per developer per active day, with costs remaining below $12 per active day for 90% of users. The current projections represent a notable upward revision.
Tokens are fundamental to how large language models process information, breaking down words into numerical inputs and outputs, serving as the building blocks for AI chatbots like Anthropic's Claude.
