Anthropic Eyes $900B+ Valuation, Poised to Overtake OpenAI as Most Valuable AI Startup

Anthropic is reportedly evaluating new investment offers for a funding round that could value the AI company at over $900 billion, according to Bloomberg. Such a valuation would position Anthropic to potentially overtake its rival, OpenAI, as the world's most valuable AI startup. Discussions are still in their very early stages, and no offer has been formally accepted yet. Anthropic had previously turned down multiple proposals valuing the company at $800 billion or more, seemingly holding out for a higher figure.

Google recently committed $10 billion to Anthropic, though this was based on an older $350 billion valuation from a February funding round. An additional $30 billion could follow if Anthropic meets specific performance targets. Amazon also invested $5 billion at that same $350 billion valuation, with plans for an extra $20 billion. It remains unclear whether Google and Amazon will participate in this prospective new round.

Concurrently, Anthropic is considering an initial public offering (IPO) as early as October. Its competitor, OpenAI, was last valued at $852 billion but is reportedly struggling with missed revenue and growth targets.
