Anthropic Eyes $900B+ Valuation in Latest Funding Round, Poised to Challenge OpenAI's Market Leadership

AI powerhouse Anthropic is reportedly requesting investors to submit allocations for its latest funding round within the next 48 hours, according to sources close to the matter. This round, which TechCrunch indicated is expected to be approximately $50 billion, is projected to close within two weeks.

Anthropic is targeting a valuation of roughly $900 billion with this funding. However, sources suggest that given the exceptionally high demand from investors eager to secure a stake in the company, the final valuation could well exceed this figure. Anthropic declined to comment on the matter.

Despite the intense investor interest, some early backers, particularly those who invested in 2024 or earlier, are opting out of this round. These investors are reportedly waiting to potentially realize returns during Anthropic’s anticipated initial public offering (IPO) later this year.

This fundraising initiative is widely considered to be Anthropic's last private round before going public, primarily aimed at financing its substantial and growing computing needs for AI model development and deployment.

Earlier this month, Anthropic announced its annual revenue run rate had surpassed $30 billion. Nevertheless, sources familiar with the company’s financials indicate that its current run rate is actually closer to $40 billion.

Anthropic's last funding round in February valued the company at $380 billion. Achieving a $900 billion valuation would not only more than double its previous assessment but would also position it ahead of its main competitor, OpenAI. OpenAI previously closed a record-breaking $122 billion round at an $852 billion post-money valuation earlier this year.
